ABOUT ME
Vlora Kosumi Ismaili (born September 14, 1979, Gjilan, Kosovo) is a distinguished visual artist and educator, currently serving as Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina”. There, she has lectured in art methodology, illustration, drawing, painting, and graphic design. She completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the Faculty of Arts in Prishtina, followed by further studies at the Faculty of Philosophy “St. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje, and earned a doctorate in art history.
Since her first solo exhibition in 2008, Vlora Kosumi Ismaili’s creative practice has centered on the female figure, a core motif explored with profound conceptual and aesthetic depth. Through painting, digital illustration, and diverse contemporary techniques, she delves into the essence of femininity: its physical and spiritual strength, dignity, inner emotional richness, and the multidimensional capacities of the feminine world. Her work bridges perspectives from tradition to modern and postmodern concepts, challenging societal prejudices while highlighting women’s regenerative and creative role in both artistic and everyday realms.
With a provocative yet inspiring approach, Kosumi Ismaili harnesses color, form, and technique to craft images that convey resonant messages across generations and social strata. Shadows, silhouettes, and deep tones frequently emerge as protagonists, unveiling the hidden layers of the female soul, where silence transforms into strength, and fragility becomes power.
She has presented over 15 solo exhibitions in Kosovo, Albania, Croatia, North Macedonia, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, and beyond (including the Gallery of the National Library in Prishtina, the Gallery of the National Historical Museum in Tirana, and other prominent venues). She has also participated in dozens of national and international group exhibitions. Beyond her artistic practice, she actively organizes events and advances contemporary art discourse, enriching the regional and international cultural landscape.
